You get taken down last second to force overtime. The ref makes a questionable call for the other guy. That banged up knee just popped again. How do you respond when something ‘bad’ happens?
The Reset
Typical Trap: Get thrown off, spiral into frustration, wrestle below your level for the rest of the period.
That emotional reaction isn’t you, it’s your Inner-B****. Don’t let it take over. Hit a Reset.
STEP 1: Pick a word or phrase to say to yourself when adversity hits
Examples- Good, Fight, Strength, Calm, Trust, Get tough, Let it go, etc.
STEP 2: Pick a quick physical gesture to pair with it
Examples- Deep breath, smirk, headgear fix, singlet pull, leg tap, etc.
Any time you sense that Inner-B**** creep up, hit your Reset and go harder.
Pro Tip: Use it everywhere (school, home, life) so it becomes automatic in matches.
